Welcome back to school and another exciting year of Home and
School Club.As President, I wanted to
invite each and every one of you to join us at our Home and School Club meetings
and become involved in your child's school.Your student may have begged you not to get involved but we invite you
to come and get involved anyway!Let me
share with you the purpose of Leigh's Home and School Club, and some of the
ways we benefited the school last year.
Leigh High School Home and School Club exists to create a
fundraising and volunteer arm for the school to augment funds and support your
child's school experience.We are
governed by our by-laws and meet monthly to discuss the fundraising efforts and
distribution of those funds and items of concern to the Leigh community. We have a close working relationship with the
school's administration and hear reports each month from one of our
administrators, a staff representative and school board representative. If you want to know what is happening atLeigh, come to a meeting!
The 2007-2008 school year was busy for us.I'd like to share with you some of the activities we were involved in this
past year:
Fundraising:Through our membership drive and
participation in eScrip, we raised $35,000 to fund our annual budget. If you would like to support our fundraising
efforts, please consider registering for eScrip at http://www.escrip.com/
College and Career
Center:We provide the funding and
volunteers to keep this valuable resource for our students and families up and
running.
Beautification:Working in conjunction with Leigh's Key Club,
a new rose garden was planted on the campus.Future plans for additional landscaping will be implemented once
construction on the gym is complete.
Staff Grants:This program provided the opportunity for
teachers to receive funding for special programs that will support classroom
instruction.This supplementary funding
included a classroom set of calculators for a math class, makeup for the drama
classes, and a salsa dance teacher for the Spanish classes.
School Grants:Funds were made available to support student
functions such as Prom, Sr. Ball and Grad Night.Additionally, we provided funding for prizes
to be awarded at the district art show and math competition.
Scholarships:In spring of 2008 we awarded scholarships to
more than 30 graduating seniors to assist them with their education beyond high
school.
Parent/Student
Education:We provide funding for
speakers for parent education events as well as funding for a major drunk driving program for our students.
Hospitality:Our hospitality committee works their magic
nearly every month of the school year, and often several times in a month to
provide food and beverage for events such as Parent Orientation, Back-to-school
Night, Staff training days, Teacher recognition, and Student Awards
events.
There are many other ways to get involved and we are open to
new ideas that you might have for improving our school through committee
efforts. Our first meeting is on September 17 at 7:00.We look forward to seeing you there or at a
future meeting!
