COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Art Show (Spring)
Support annual District Art Show by coordinating with Leigh Art Department staff. Help secure volunteers who provide set-up and tear-down assistance for the show.

Campus Beautification (Year-round or as planned)
Coordinates beautification projects that could range from landscaping to general school clean-up. Work with Principal and Activities Director to plan projects and recruit parent and student volunteers. Time commitment depends on scope and frequency of the projects planned.

College & Career Center (Year-round)
The College & Career Center is a volunteer-run resource center for students and parents to explore life after Leigh. Staffed by volunteers during tutorial and lunch hour (based on volunteer availability) and houses college information (brochures and catalogs for instate and out of state colleges and universities), financial aid information, scholarship opportunities, occasional job opportunities and much more. Volunteers interact with students, Leigh guidance staff and Administration. Committee chair organizes and trains volunteer staff and works in the center as needed.

Dance Chaperones (Year-round on Dance occasions)
Coordinates with Activities Director and calls parent volunteers to chaperone dances at Leigh.

District Reps (finance and board levels) (Year-round)
Attend monthly meetings.

eScrip (Year-round)
Coordinates the non-IMPA eScrip program at Leigh, including recruiting new sign-ups at school-wide events (e.g., Back to School Night) and interfacing with eScrip organization to input new members as needed and review/present overall monthly contributions to Leigh.

Every 15 Minutes (Year-round every 4 years)
A program aimed at raising the awareness of the impact drinking and driving on students. The program is presented every four years for the entire student body. Committee chair will spend approximately 5 hours each week, from January through May, coordinating with school administration and students, county agencies that support the program and parent volunteers.

Fall Registration (August)
Support start of school year student registration (usually in the 2nd or 3rd week of August) by coordinating with Leigh Activities Director and securing volunteers who staff registration tables for the two days of on-site student registration.

Hospitality (Year-round)
Oversees the provision of refreshment at several standing events through the year, including incoming Freshmen Parents’ Welcome, Eighth Grade parent Orientation, Senior Awards, and more. Also provides occasional luncheons for Leigh faculty and staff. Committee chair signs up volunteers to provide food donations and to help with set-up and clean-up.

Junior Prom (Spring)
Works with Activities Director and Junior Class leadership to put on the Junior Prom at Leigh. Includes decorating, food preparation, and organizing volunteers to help in planning, decorating, chaperoning and clean-up.

Parent Education (Occasionally)
Coordinates evening guest speakers who offer topics of interest to parents of high-school aged students. Solicits parents to determine topics of interest and works with Leigh Administration, other high schools and junior high schools, and through personal connections to source and hire selected speakers, arrange speaker dates, and provide notification to parents of event topics, dates, and times.

Scholarships (Spring)
Coordinates the Home & School Club annual scholarship awards to senior students. Advertises scholarship to seniors, provides scholarship applications in the College & Career Center, coordinates a parent committee to review scholarship applications, creates awards and distributes awards to students at Senior Awards Night.

Staff Grants
Supports faculty at Leigh by providing liaison to Home & School Club grants for classroom aide that is outside the High School budget. Solicits grant requests, reviews with Principal and at HSC meetings, and coordinates follow-through.




The following organizations are sub-organizations to the Home and School Club, with independent by-laws and activities. Please call the Leigh front office (408) 377-4470 for information on how to reach the sub-organizations directly.


Center Stage
Supports the production of two or more plays at Leigh (not presently connected with the LHS Drama classes).

Sports Boosters
Supports Leigh athletics through a separate, parent-run booster organization.

Instrumental Music and Performing Arts (IMPA)
Supports band and choral programs at Leigh through a separate, parent-run booster organization.

Grad Night
Supports the planning and implementation of Grad Night activities for Seniors. Fundraising through Shoreline Amphitheater supports Grad Night and Junior Prom.
